Anchorage International Airport

Monday 12 January 2009 @ 11:55 am

Formally known as Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, is an airport situated four miles southwest of downtown Anchorage, Alaska. The airport got its name from the current and long standing US senator Ted Stevens, and is the center for Alaska Airlines. Alaska Airlines’ majority of passengers and flights are to Seattle or Tacoma, with an average of twenty flights per day to these destinations, and thirteen flights per day to Fairbanks.

During the 1960s and 1980s, Anchorage International Airport was a common stopover for passengers flying to East Asia because U.S. and Western European aircrafts could not fly over Soviet Airspace and also because they did not have the choices as modern day aircrafts have today.  Presently, the Anchorage International Airport is still being used by cargo carriers as a trans-Pacific hub and stopovers for Anchorage flights between Asia and the eastern United States. It is the fourth busiest cargo airport in the world today, after Memphis, Hong Kong, and Tokyo-Narita.

Acapulco Buses and Taxis

Monday 12 January 2009 @ 11:54 am

Getting around Acapulco is actually not that hard because of various types of local transportation.  Acapulco buses and taxis are some of them, although they may not be very comfortable at times but they are generally safe.  For first-time tourists to Acapulco, always know the rule of thumb or understand the “Right of Way” in Mexico when going around the city as it may just save your life.  The rule of thumb in Mexico is always the larger object, vehicle or human, has the right of way.  So if you’re crossing the street and looking at a big truck coming your way, never think that the driver will give way for pedestrians trying to outrun them in crossing. So always be careful when crossing the streets of this bustling city.

Half Dome In Yosemite

Friday 9 January 2009 @ 11:49 am

Yosemite National Park may be made famous by its share of majestic waterfalls, but the Half Dome is clearly the park’s most distinct natural treasure.

This very popular landmark is believed to be the other half of a granite wall that crumbled during the Ice Age. Whether this theory is true or not, it does not change the fact that the Half Dome in Yosemite used to be totally impossible to climb. Over the years, people have found ways to ascend to its peak. Most of them were able to reach the summit by hiking a trail that starts from the valley floor. The roundabout route is approximately 8.5 miles with the last ascent done by following metal cables put up on posts. The final route involving the cables was constructed in the year 1919.

Grand Canyon

Thursday 8 January 2009 @ 11:35 am

The United States’ peanut butter consumption every year can cover the entire Grand Canyon floor. This does not only prove how appealing peanut butter is to the American consumers, but also, just how huge this national park is.

Situated northwest of Arizona, the world’s 3rd natural wonder encompasses a land of more than 1 million acres. Since most people use miles to measure the Grand Canyon, it is then 277 miles long. The Colorado River, which carves it out along with several other canyons, is actually longer in length. But the Grand Canyon remains to be the most magnificent among them, according to most people.

For those who want to get to the canyon’s bottom on foot, the journey would require two days. Hikers who travel from the South Rim to the North Rim usually spend three days each way. Taking a raft trip through the canyon may take longer than two weeks. There are expert backpackers who have stayed in the Grand Canyon’s secluded areas for weeks.

For some people, sleeping for as short as five hours during a holiday trip is enough. Beyond that number is a waste of vacation time.

During your visit to Copenhagen, accommodations need not be expensive. There is a wide selection of Copenhagen bed and breakfasts that you can choose from to get your money’s worth.
