If you are fond of nature, there are many options for you.  The usual way to go is BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo (www.brzoo.org).   This is best if you are with your family and have the kids with you.  The kids especially will enjoy the tour.  At the end of the tour, one may check the zoo’s gift shop for souvenir items.

Other Baton Rouge attractions include The USS KIDD (www.usskidd.com). The USS KIDD is a U.S. Naval Destroyer used during World War II.  You can spend an overnight stay at the ship.  A minimum number of 20 individuals can qualify your group to apply for a reservation for an overnight stay.  And only those six years old and above are allowed to be with the group.  There should be one adult for every eight kids.  If you are a large group, you can have exclusive reservation.  Minimum number for this type of reservation is 75 heads.  Fee per head is still 18 dollars, but your group gets to have the entire ship that night with no other groups around.

Another attraction is the West Baton Rouge Museum (www.lapage.com/wbrm). One will be able to see the 22-foot sugar mill model, which exhibits the conversion process of sugar cane to raw sugar.  The museum is located at 845 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, LA 70767.  One can email them at wbrmuseum@yahoo.com.

Then there is the Oak Alley Plantation (www.oakalleyplantation.com).  This is also called the “Grande Dame of the Great River Road”.  Oak Alley Plantation is located in between  New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
